In an effort to justify the large number of hours involved (which aren't limited to the game-day 24), Dan has established a pledge drive to benefit the National Mental Health Association.
Those interested in contributing have the option of pledging a certain number of pennies per yard of paperclips or making a one-time donation. They also have the option of specifying a bonus donation in the eventuality that the record is broken. (If a pledge of $0.01 per yard were made on the current record, the donation would amount to $8.96.)
For the (justifiably) skeptical, Dan will be posting all receipts here. To pledge, please e-mail paperclipchallenge@geocities.com with your name, address, phone number, and pledge. Dan is currently trying to find a corporate donor to match funds.
